is issued for informational and planning purposes only. The Naval
Surface Warfare Center is conducting market research to identify and
catalog potential contractors and government activities currently
conducting research and development projects involving advanced gun
propulsion concepts that may be applicable in meeting the requirements
for future U.S. Navy gun systems. This request is a market survey for
information purposes only and not a request for proposal or
announcement of a solicitation. No contract is planned at this time.
The purpose of this market survey is to identify sources currently
engaged in the development of advanced propulsion technologies or
propulsion components for advanced gun systems and to catalog such
sources, their sponsor, any unique facilities developed, and the
expected payoff for application to future naval gun systems. Progress
within a given technology area will be evaluated at a later date to
determine which Navy requirements, if any, can be met by the use of
this technology and the resources required for its development.
Propulsion technologies applicable to all calibers of naval gun systems
are solicited. Interest is expressed in, but not limited to, the
following gun propulsion technologies: electromagnetic guns (rail guns
and coil guns), electrothermal and electrothermal chemical guns,
liquid propellant guns, ram accelerators and light gas guns, and
advanced solid propellant gun concepts. Interested parties should
submit their responses (3 copies) no later than 15 March 2000.
Information submitted in this statement should include organization
name, a brief description of the technology and its current status,
sponsor, funding profile, schedule, expected payoff and a point of
contact and telephone number. Responses should be no more than five
pages in length. Mail responses to Contracting Officer, Phyllis D.
