NOTICE OF INTENT TO AWARD SOLE SOURCE PROCUREMENT FOR A PREFORM INDEX PROFILER. The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) intends to award on a sole source basis a contract for a Preform Index Profiler Instrument and software with PK Technology, a subsidiary of G N Nettest. The requirement includes a Model P104 instrument, fixed aperture, tomography software, "B" and "C" cells, "E" cell for standard calibration at time of installation and an option for software and computer control system compatible with a generic Pentium-based personal computer. The instrument shall be used in the characterization of optical fiber preforms fabricated at NRL. Desired delivery of this sytem shall be 6 months after contract award with delivery of the Pentium-based software and computer control system available 18 months thereafter. Vendors who feel they can provide a similar instrument to meet the requirements above shall fully identify their interest and submit their capabilities to provide such an instrument within 15 days after publication of this synopsis. Responses received after 15 days or without the required information shall be considered to be non-responsive to the synopsis and not be considered. Numbered Note 22 applies to this procurement.
