Special Operations Command Contracting Office, lewisd@socom.mil. The
U.S. Special Operations Command has received Congressional funding for
Nightstar Binoculars. The Directorate of Procurement intends to
solicit and negotiate a sole source requirement with the manufacturer
of the Nightstar Binoculars, DRS Optronics Inc., for the purchase of an
estimated quantity of 250 systems. Contract Specialist for this action
is Dorothy M. Lewis, lewisd@socom.mil, Nightstar is a Commercial
off-the-shelf (COT) item. The system incorporates a third generation
image intensifier tube, digital compass, and an inclination/elevation
capability. The system is lightweight, compact for ease of use. The
system is simple to operate (by a soldier with minimal dexterity), the
system is able to determine distance to objects within a range of 20
to 2,000 meters, provides a long-range infrared pointing, and contain
a class 1 eye-safe laser. The SIC code is 5999, Miscellaneous "Retail
Store" Binoculars -- Retail. The anticipated award date is on or about
2 June 00. This notice is not a requestfor competitive proposals.
However, timely proposals received will be considered by the
Government. The Department of Defense requires all contractors to be
registered in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) for contract
