NASA/LaRC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for One each (1) of a laser system containing a large pulse energy (~350 mJ @ 532 nm), single-frequency (<100 MHz FWHM @ 1.06 um), frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser that can be Q-switched and un-Q-switched. Laser must also have the capability to purge an entire optical path. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/LaRC intends to purchase the items from Spectra Physics, Inc. to ensure compatibility with an existing system as well as to provide reduncancy of lasers to avoid the possibility of a catastrophic failure during wind tunnel testing. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local time on 05/19/00. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government.
