COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 8,2000 PSA#2595B -- SYMPOSIUM TO PRESENT RESEARCH FINDINGS ON DISABILITY AND
RETIREMENT AGE POLICY The Social Security Administration (SSA) intends
to negotiate with, and award a contract to the National Academy of
Social Insurance (NASI); 1776 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Suite 615;
Washington, DC 20036 to conduct research on the subject of Disability
and Retirement Age Policy in order to deepen and broaden knowledge of
the implications of changes in retirement age policy on disability
benefits programs and the people they serve. This contract will solicit
two to three commissioned research papers on the topic including the
role health or disability status plays in the decisions of older
workers to stop working. The demand for older workers in the future,
including those with health conditions and disabilities. The
implications for the disability programs of raising the retirement age.
The contractor shall also arrange to conduct a daylong symposium in
Washington, DC, to present the reported research findings. The
symposium will bring together university and think tank scholars in the
field of disability and retirement; Social Security Administration
policy and research experts; Congressional staff and researchers from
Congressional agencies; representatives from federal agencies with an
interest in the topic; and advocates for older workers and persons with
disabilities. The estimated number of attendees is @ 200. The
contractor shall handle the logistics for the symposium including
securing space, refreshments and audio-visual equipment in a
disability-accessible meeting space; inviting speakers and providing
for their travel and lodging; inviting attendees using a list of
invitees to be developed in conjunction with SSA; and processing
registrations. All papers prepared and presented will be published by
SSA. Any responsible source that believes it can provide the required
services should submit a Technical Proposal describing its capabilities
and resources to the Contracting Officer at the address listed above NO
LATER THAN May 16, 2000. This notice is for information purposes only
