Lewis 520-629-4613 Provide A/E services to design project No. 678-310,
Renovate Ward 3N-Bldg 2, at the Tucson, AZ, Southern Arizona VA Health
Care System (SAVAHCS). Services include site investigation, design
development, construction documents, cost estimates and construction
period services for renovation of approximately 9400 SF. The space
currently functions as a 28-bed inpatient unit with a cardiac telemetry
emphasis. Work includes demo, asbestos abatement (primarly pipe
insulation), evaluation of existing air handler unit for reuse,
replacement of all other systems, new private/semi-private patient
bedrooms, handicap accessible bathrooms, new space for storage, nurse
station(s) and space for housekeeping functions. All new construction
shall meet life safety, fire & handicap accessibility codes as well as
Joint Commision standards. Design disciplines include building
architects, structural engineers, mechanical/plumbing/fire protection
engineers, electrical/electronic engineers and IH services for asbestos
abatement. The A/E shall demonstrate his/her and each consultant's
qualifications with respect to the published evaluation factors for
design and all services. Evaluation factors (1) through (6) are of
equal importance; factor (7) is of lesser importance than factors (1)
through (6). Specific evaluation factors include: (1) Professional
qualifications of the firm and staff including those of any consultant,
proposed to design subject project; (2) Specialized experience and
technical competency in the type of work described above. Firm's prior
experience should include, at a minimum, completion of projects
associated with health care facilities, to include emergency power
installation and code compliance issues where applicable; (3) Capacity
of firm and project teams to accomplish design within timeframe
required; (4) Past performance on contracts with Government agencies
(with emphasis on VA work) and private industry with regard to cost
control, quality of work, compliance with performance schedules, change
orders/claims; (5) Specific internal quality control precedures. Firms
will be evaluated on the acceptability of their internal quality
control program used to assure technical accuracy and discipline
coordination of plans and specifications and capability of producing
construction documents using AutoCad release 14/2000 software; (6)
Location in the general geographical area of the anticipated projects
(within a 125 mile radius of SAVAHCS, Tucson, AZ; knowledge of local
site conditions; and, ability of the firm to provide timely response to
request for on-site support; (7) Volume of work previously awarded to
the firm by the Department of Veterans Affairs. SIC code is 8712.
Estimated construction cost range is between $1,000,000 and $2,000,000.
