Command Acquisition Center, Natick, MA is conducting market research to
identify commercial sources for an advanced bomb suit meeting the
following requirements: Advanced Bomb Suit (ABS) for use by Explosive
Ordnance Disposal soldiers. The ABS is an integrated, whole body
protective outfit that protects soldiers who are required to approach
and render safe hazardous unexploded ordnance and improvised explosive
devices that threaten the maneuver commander's assets and operations
during offensive, defensive, stability and support operations. The ABS
will protect the EOD soldier from fragmentation, blast overpressure,
heat and flame, and impact using various body worn components. The ABS
may include NBC protective components. The ABS will provide advances
in suit design and technology over the current system. Advanced design
and technology will improve fragmentation, blast overpressure, and
impact protection as well as improve human factors performance with
respect to items including but not limited to donning and emergency
doffing performance, distribution of weight, flexibility, and vision.
It will replace the following four items in the current system: Coat,
Body Armor, Explosive Ordnance; Trousers, Body Armor Explosive
Ordnance; Body Armor, Chest Plate-Face Shield; and Helmet Bonnet, Body
Armor, Explosive Ordnance. A copy of the Operational Requirements
