The U S Army proposes to award a sole source contract to Ceradyne, Inc. 3169 Redhill Avenue, Costa Mesa, CA. 92626 for armor ceramic materials of various thickness in several geometries. Additionally, ceramic grinding services and production of body armor systems, which integrate the armor ceramics with a polymer composite backing, are required. Quantities of each material type, thickness and geometry will vary during the life of the contract, average quantities are estimated at 150 pounds of armor materials and up to 100 hours of ceramic grinding services. This is a sole source due to the unique capability of the contractor and unique properties of the material required. Initial six month period with two option years.
