Thompson, Contracting Officer, 301-713-2110 ext 116 The NOAA Automated
Surface Observing System (ASOS) program has a need for a
commercial-off-the-shelf LIDAR instrument capable of reporting vertical
backscatter and/or extinction energy profiles in height bins that are
range and instrument normalized. The ground- based sensor shall have a
signal detection range not less than 8,000 meters with resolution less
than or equal to 30 meters. The instrument shall use a Class 1 eye-safe
laser that transmits energy in the visible spectrum. The sensor and
associated equipment shall be suitable for the outdoor environment with
weather-tight enclosures, cables, and sensing elements. The instrument
shall be capable of tilting plus or minus 90 degrees from zenith. The
sensor shall operate on single phase commercial power. The Government
intends to purchase one Commercial sensor which can meet the NWS MLS
requirements. Vendors may request a copy of the complete MLS
requirement from the contact person within two weeks of the CBD
issuance and should respond within four weeks of CBD issuance.
