Description
Puget Sound Naval Shipyard is seeking descriptive literature for any detection and imaging system that will scan bags of low density industrial waste for the detection and identification of small pieces (approximately 2 mm X 2 mm X 10 mm) of metal and small localized amounts (approximately 60 ml) of free liquids. Ideally, the system would also be able to identify the type or density of any metal detected. The equipment should provide a locally displayed visual image of the contents of the waste bags as well as have the capability of digitally storing the images. The system should be capable of interfacing with an existing IBM-compatible computer-based LAN to allow remote viewing, retrieval, and printing of recorded images. The system should have a conveyor-like means of transporting packages of approximately 2 ft (wide) X 2 ft (height) x 40 in (length) and up to 75 pounds weight through the scanning area. The entire system should be easily moveable from location to location (e.g., have casters). It should operate on a standard 120 volt, 60Hz wall outlet and fit within a footprint (including operator space) of approximately 6 ft (wide X 8 ft (length) x 7 ft height). The information collected from this market research effort will be utilized to understand commercial and nondevelopmental items' ability to meet the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard's needs. Desired parameters do not necessarily represent minimum acceptable capabilities. This announcement is NOT a formal solicitation and is NOT a request for proposal. Availability of any formal solicitation will be announced separately. This synopsis is for information and planning purposes ONLY and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government. Firms responding should indicate whether they are a small business (S), a small disadvantaged business (SDB), a small woman-owned business (WO), or a large business (L). Each response must reference the sources sought title. Information submitted should describe the contractor's capability and/or past experience in performing/providing the described system and should include information regarding testing of the system outlined above, specifically feasibility of pre-award testing. The information will be used to develop a source of potential proposes for possible future solicitation. Interested entities may submit faxed responses to FISC Puget Sound, Attn: Monique Klose at (360) 476-6479 or send email to monique_a_klose@puget.fisc.navy.mil.
