- Small Business Conference The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will be holding a Small Business Conference on May 1 & 2, 2001. The location to be determined at a later date. The conference will be hosted by the FAA Southwest Region located in Fort Worth, Texas. The FAA SW region's primary focus is on the following activities, which includes supplies, services, and construction contracting, for FAA facilities and offices in the five state area, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. In FY 2000 (10/1/99 -- 9/30/00), the FAA SW Region spent a total of $36 Million dollars in direct contracts and procurements. $21 Million dollars of the total FY 2000 annual expenditure was awarded to Small Businesses, $8 Million dollars to Socially and Economically Disadvantaged Businesses (SEDBs)/8(a) Certified Businesses, $158 Thousand dollars to Small and Disadvantaged Businesses (SDBs), and $2 Million dollars to Small Woman Owned Businesses (WOBs). These numbers demonstrate the FAA's total commitment as provided in the FAA Acquisition Management System (AMS) "to implement and aggressively strive to provide small businesses and small businesses owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals attainable and reasonable opportunities to participate as prime contractors and subcontractors for the products and services procured by the FAA." Vigorous outreach efforts, which is the purpose of this Small Business Conference, is one of several key features of the FAA's Small Business Program. The conference theme is "FAA Today, Tomorrow and Beyond". The FAA is soliciting your suggestions and recommendations to assist us in the planning phase of this conference by ensuring that the speakers, the agenda and the workshops provide you with the information and tools necessary to secure business opportunities with Federal, State, and City Governmental Agencies located within the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. Please submit your written suggestions and/or recommendations to: Gail Hill at gail.e.hill@faa.gov , Brad Logan at brad.logan@faa.gov , and David Kist at david.a.kist@faa.gov You may mail your comments to: FAA Southwest Region 2601 Meacham Blvd Fort Worth, TX 76137-4298 Attn: Gail Hill/Brad Logan/David Kist, ASW-55 As a minimum, please comment on the following questions and planning efforts that are in process relative to the Small Business Conference agenda and program: 1. What topics/workshops should the agenda include? 2. What specific information or discussion items should be addressed? 3. What FAA procurement and technical officials would you like to see participate or speak at the conference? 4. What FAA programs or offices would you like to see exhibited at the conference? Please comment and provide recommendations/suggestions for additions, deletions or changes/revisions to the following draft conference agenda: 1. Briefings from procurement officials, on procurement reform and the FAA Acquisition Management System (AMS). 2. Panel discussions involving FAA executives, Industry, Technical, and Procurement officials from across the United States. 3. Workshops, including Construction and A&E Contracting, Environmental, Mentor-Prot g Program, Information Technology (IT), FAA Small Business Utilization Program Overview, Dispute Resolution Process, DBE Opportunities at Airports, Credit Card Program, How to develop Cost/Pricing Proposals, Short Terms Lending/Bonding Programs, Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and Technology Transfer Program, Historically Black Colleges and Universities Program, Hispanic American Colleges and Universities Program, National Airspace System (NAS) Architecture. 4. Other Federal, State, and Local Government Procurement Workshops, i.e., SBA, Department of Commerce, GSA, the Veterans Administration, etc. 5. FAA and Industry Exhibitors, Product Demonstrations and Networking. Please submit your comments by close of business Jan 19, 2001. Your recommendations are needed and will be fully considered in accomplishing our goal of designing a conference which will provide vital information and tools to empower Small Businesses to seek and obtain business opportunities with the FAA., including state and local government agencies located within the Southwest Region.
