Description

USDA, ARS, SAA intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source, Perkin Elmer Instruments, to furnish one Autosystem XL Gas Chromatograph for the Market Quality and Handling Research Unit at USDA, ARS, Raleigh, NC. This instrument is needed to analyze edible seed and oils for lipid components such as fatty acids and sterols. The critical elements are: the autosampler used to introduce samples from vials into the instrument must travel to the vial, rather than having a robot mechanism lift the vial and take it to the injector mechanism. The instrument must have a sealed keypad rather than raised buttons for operation. The software to control the instrument and to analyze data must be TurboChrom. The headspace sampler must be an automated static setup. No telephone inquiries will be accepted. Interested parties should submit written responses including prices and technical data sufficient to determine capability to meet the entire requirement and must be received in this office within 15 calendar days after publication of this notice. It should be noted that no contract will be awarded on the basis of offers received in response to this notice, but will be used to determine if a comparable source more advantageous to the Government is available. If no affirmative written responses are received, negotiations will be held with Perkin Elmer Instruments without further notice. This acquisition is being conducted under the Federal Acquisition Streamlining Act, Simplified Acquisition Procedures. The anticipated award date is January 19, 2001.
