- Description
- The Social Security Administration (SSA) is seeking sources that can provide an integrated Advanced Function Presentation (AFP) notice formatting system. SSA sends its customers over 240 million notices annually. While the majority of notices are produced by several different automated mainframe notice systems, a significant number of notices are produced in some manual or semi-automated fashion that requires employee intervention using numerous non-integrated systems. All SSA notices are currently formatted using Xerox-print resources and are printed on Xerox printers or contracted out for printing. SSA has made an Agency-level decision to use Advance Function Presentation (AFP) as the standard for formatting and printing its notices. The AFP notice formatting system that SSA is seeking should include the following features/capabilities: (1) Must be off-the-shelf, field-proven and commercially available; (2) Must run/operate in a mainframe OS/390 environment; (3) Must not require changes to existing operating system, hardware or application software in use at SSA; (4) Must handle input from up to fifteen separate notice generation systems and accept input records containing paragraph identifiers and fill-in values without changing the record format; (5) Must be year 2000 compliant; (6) Must be able to utilize all AFP resources and features; (7) Must provide for reserved formatted areas for signature, logo and/or heading graphics; (8) Must support multiple languages, but at a minimum must support English and Spanish; (9) Must allow for notice formatting using paragraph numbers and/or fill-in information from SSA_s centralized language database without changes to the language database which is in Oracle and uses SGML tags; (10) Must provide for multiple fill-in identifiers and also for fill-ins within fill-ins. Any responsible organization able to provide such technology is invited to submit complete details concerning its capabilities, experience, and other pertinent data (including GSA contract information). Respondents must clearly indicate the capability of the product to meet the requirements stated above (any literature or information submitted as a response to this notice must contain enough information to attest to the capability of a product offered to meet the stated requirements). Only written responses will be accepted. Responses are due by January 26, 2001. The Government does not intend to pay for any information provided. This is a request for information only -- THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS (RFP). Requests for a solicitation will not be honored or acknowledged. No contract award will be made on the basis of responses received. However, this information will be used in SSA_s assessment of capable sources. Respondents should refer to SSA-SSS-01-JCE-AFP. Respondents will NOT be notified of the results of the evaluation of the information received.
