- Description
- Kaiser-Hill Company, L.L.C. (herein referred to as "K-H") is the Integrating Management Contractor at the Department of Energy's (DOE) Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site (RFETS) near Denver, Colorado. The purpose of this announcement is collecting product literature on commercially available crushing devices that can handle the material types identified in this announcement. K-H is currently evaluating alternative methods for the disposal of existing equipment in its Building 707 Complex. The following specific material has been identified for disposal. 1. Chainveyer. Typically consisting of sections approximately 4 feet by 3 feet tall by 12 feet long. These sections are constructed of eight (8) gauge stainless steel on top and sides with quarter inch (1/4") stainless on bottom. Most sections of the chainveyer also have a one-eight inch (1/8") of lead shielding. In addition, the top of the chainveyer is a channel that is made up of one and half inch (1.5") by two inch (2") stainless channel. The type of stainless is type 304L. There are also stainless steel stiffeners every 10 feet, either internally or externally. The stiffeners are typically a quarter inch (1/4") wide by two inch (2") high. 2. Transuranic (TRU) Contaminated Glove Boxes. The glove boxes are typically 5 foot long sections, 4 feet wide and up to 6 feet tall. The bottom is typically one half inch (1/2") stainless steel. The sides and top are typically quarter inch (1/4") stainless steel, with multiple lead glass or tempered glass windows and frames that are approximately one-half inch (1/2") thick stainless steel. Most glove boxes contain a number of brackets and light equipment, with some glove boxes having shelves. The nominal weight of glove box sections is under 4,300 lbs. TRU contaminated material must be crushed to fit into a Standard Waste Box (SWB) (i.e., crushed dimensions can not exceed 5 feet by 4 feet and no higher than 3 feet). 3. Surface Contaminated Object (SCO) Contaminated Glove Boxes. The glove boxes are typically 12 foot long sections, 4 feet wide, and up to 6 feet tall. The bottom is typically one half inch (1/2") stainless steel. The sides and top are typically quarter inch (1/4") stainless steel, with multiple lead glass or tempered glass windows and frames that are approximately one-half inch (1/2") thick stainless steel. Most boxes contain a number of brackets and light equipment, with some having shelves. Nominal weight of glove box sections is under 10,000 lbs. SCO Material must be crushed to no greater than 12 foot lengths. The crushing device shall be capable of being installed on a standard industrial floor (500 lbs per square foot). The unit may be provided in modules. Because of building limitations, the unit itself or its modular pieces should be no wider than 10 feet, no taller then 10 feet, and no longer the 14 feet. Companies shall provide product literature detailing the "pre-crushed" size (height, width, length) and weight capacities for each recommended model of crushing devices, along with each model's resulting "post-crush" envelop height, width, length). Please indicate whether each model can be configured to cut feed stock to length as an integral part of the crushing process. Any system limitations shall be clearly identified. It is K-H's preference that only crushers not requiring modification, beyond standard options, be submitted for consideration. Copies of any published price lists shall also be provided in a separately marked envelope. Any questions pertaining to this announcement shall be submitted in writing by 3:00 p.m. (Mountain Standard Time) on 01/19/2001 to Ms. Elizabeth A. Straub via facsimile at 303-966-2564 or via e-mail at elizabeth.straub@rfets.gov. Product literature shall be submitted by 3:00 p.m. (Mountain Standard Time) on 2/01/2001 to Ms. Straub either via facsimile or by mail at following address: Kaiser-Hill Company, L.L.C., Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site, 10808 Highway 93, Building 850, Room 210A, Golden, Colorado, 80403-0200.
