- Description
- The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) plans to negotiate a Purchase Order with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) to test and evaluate electronically controlled brake systems (ECBS). The purpose of this research is to develop appropriate test and evaluation procedures to access the performance of various vehicle and brake configurations for tractors and trailers with and without electronically controlled braking systems. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) has assembled a working group comprised of members of the Motor Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA), the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) and the American Trucking Association (ATA). SAE will be coordinating and managing this research effort along with disseminating information through meetings, books, technical papers, magazines, reports, continuing education programs and electronic databases. Because SAE is a major developer of standards concerned with the safety and design of self-propelled and towed vehicles in addition to assembling a working group consisting of experts on this subject matter, they are the only known source available for this project. This is a Simplified Acquisition and the anticipated award date is on or about February 7, 2001.
