- Description
- The U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM), Acquisition Center, Warren, Michigan 48397-5000 SUBJECT: INDUSTRY DAY ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ARMY CREW INTEGRATION AND AUTOMATION TESTBED (CAT) AND ROBOTIC FOLLOWER (RF) ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY DEMONSTRATION (ATD) PROGRAMS DESC: The Tank-Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) Vetronics Technology Area is hosting an Industry Day on February 27, 2001 at 9:00 a.m. for the presentation of general information on a future research project for prototype development of the Army Crew Integration and Automation Testbed (CAT) and Robotic Follower (RF) Advanced Technology Demonstration (ATD) Programs. The project is intended to integrate technologies, leveraged from Army and Commercial sector developments, into C-130 transportable vehicle platforms and to support demonstrations of these systems during field tests. These platforms will be used for advanced technology demonstrations of the CAT and RF programs as a step toward transition to the Future Combat System (FCS). The purpose of the CAT ATD is to demonstrate the crew interfaces, automation and integration technologies required to operate and support future combat vehicles. The goal of the program is to demonstrate crew stations enabling two-man crew operation of multi-mission capable, C-130 transportable systems required for the objective force of the Army. The RF ATD is focused on maturation and demonstration of robotics technology to be considered for the FCS program. The RF ATD will develop, integrate and demonstrate the technology required to achieve unmanned follower capabilities for future land combat vehicles. The industry day briefing is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. on February 27, 2001 at TACOM in the TARDEC Battlefield Observation Room, Bldg. 200C. Directions to TACOM are available at the following website: http://www.tacom.army.mil/visitors/VISTACOM.HTM (case sensitive). The Vetronics Technology Area will provide information to industry regarding the Army's vision for the project. General information will also be made available on the Government's planned acquisition strategy for the project. The Government plans the selection of a contractor through the "Best Value" competitive source selection process. The selected contractor will be the prime contractor for research, development and fabrication of the Army CAT and RF ATD Programs. All interested industry vendors are invited to attend; however, due to space restrictions, vendors are asked to limit their number of attendees to not more than 5 people. Be advised that if the number of attendees is substantial, it may be necessary to reschedule the Industry Day. Please periodically consult this website for any updates.
