Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), with Asylum Research Corporation, 601 Pine Avenue, Santa Barbara, CA 93117, for a Molecular Force Probe. This single molecule puller is a state-of-the-art, one-of-a-kind instrument that has been developed by Asylum Research and is the first and only instrument of its kind on the market. It is uniquely suited to NIST's needs in developing a program in the evaluation and calibration of forces associated with single molecule probes. The unit will be modified and integrated into a home-made apparatus used to apply calibrated forces to the probe tip. No similar instruments exist with proven track records. Only an Asylum Research MFP will meet the needs of our program. Atomic force microscopes have a similar function in some respects, but are not designed specifically to optimize single molecule force experiments and are not easily integrated into our existing laboratory apparatus. Delivery shall be FOB Destination, Gaithersburg, MD. Delivery is required within 60 days. No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations. However, all responses received by March 8 2001 will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
