Description

NASA/GSFC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for six (6) gear bearing transmission prototypes, two (2) each of three (3) variations as proof of concept for speed reduction, axial thrust load, and backlash. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/GSFC intends to purchase the items from Honeybee Robotics, Inc., New York, NY. The authority for other than full and open competition is FAR 6.302-1 Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. This is a continuation effort for Honeybee Robotics, Inc. incorporating proprietary information on gear bearing transmissions. Issuing this procurement to another company would result in duplicating work already completed by Honeybee Robotics, Inc. The Government does not intend to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. See Note 26. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local time on March 09, 2001. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit their capabilities/qualifications which shall be considered by the agency.
