- Description
- Under the authority granted in FAR 6.302-1, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with the University of Cincinnati to conduct research that will investigate ecological interactions associated with Mammalian consumers, particularly the Eastern Mole (Scalopus Aquaticus), on riparian zones and their nitrogen dnamics. The University of Cincinnati demonstates a unique capability to provide the particular research services proposed. Their staff is recognized as the leading authority on consumer nutritional nitrogen cycling. This research will investigate the influence of adjoining landuse on riparian zone small mammal abundance and will further quantify effects to riparian ecology and nitrogen dynamics associated with: 1) plant replacement, recruitment, and growth in soil disturbed by Mamalian Consumers and 2) nitrogen use and transport within and through soil mounds and tunnels created by fossorial mammal consumers. The products of this research will provide field and ecosystem specific data to help USEPA/ORD/NRMRL/SSPRD and USGS collaborators at the Gaar Corner, OK field site caibrate models of ecosystem risk and provide improved recommendations and insights for the manipulation of primary consumers to manage nitrogen in watersheds, particularly with the goal to restore riparian zones in Eastern Deciduous forests. The NAICS code for this effort will be 541710 (Research and Development in the Physical, Engineering, and Life Sciences). THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR QUOTATIONS. Any firm which is capable of meeting these requirements may submit technical documentation to establish that it can accomplish the investigative research required. Only those firms which submit such documentation will be considered. Technical documentation must be submitted within 15 days of this notice to the office identified above. The fax number is (513) 487-2109. Email documentation to yates.william@epa.gov and nichols.marie@epa.gov!!
