- Description
- The goal of this acquisition is to develop 15 assays employing FRET technology during fiscal year 01 and to transfer the assays to the Government upon completion of the optimization of each assay. Reagents shall be used in field exercises as required. Reagents shall be used in training of new users of platforms on which the reagent will work. The resultant contractor shall provide qualified, personnel to design and optimize FRET assays for the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. Primer and probe design and all optimization conditions will be forwarded to the Government with reagents for validation testing. This task consists of four major steps: (1) Design of the primers and probes for use in FRET assays (2) Synthesis of the primers and probes (3) Optimization of the assay (4) Submission of a report and reagents to the Government. The contractor shall design the assays for three bacterial organisms first. The organisms are Francisella tularensis, Yersinia pestis, and Brucella melitensis. Suggested target genes for Francisella are Tul4, fopA and SOD. Suggested target genes for Yersinia are CAF1, plasminogen activator, pesticin, IS100 murine lethal toxin. Suggested targets for Brucella include government furnished sequence data, OMP antigens, LPS sequence and IS 7-11 sequence. Primers/probe design shall be determined using proprietary software. Software shall be made available to the Government to support future design analysis. The award is anticipated to be a six-month basic and two one-year options. See Note 1.
