Description
Method and Apparatus for Low Temperature Destruction of Halogenated Hydrocarbons", U. S. Patent Number 5,994,604 This is a potential technology development and licensing opportunity with BBWI, the prime operating contractor for the Department of Energy at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL). BBWI is seeking a written expression of interest from industry partners interested in funding a collaborative technology development project and/or entering into a license agreement for the purpose of developing and commercializing this technology. License terms will include an up-front licensing fee and a running royalty based on a percentage of sales. This is not an opportunity to provide goods or services to BBWI or the Department of Energy nor is it a commitment to continue research in this technology. This Request for Interest (RFI) will close to response 30 days after publication. Interested parties should send a description of their company and their ability to commercialize this technology to the address to the following POC: Gary W. Smith, Sr. Account Executive, Technology Transfer and Commercialization, Bechtel BWXT Idaho, LLC, P. O. Box 1625, 2525 North Fremont Ave., Idaho Falls, ID 83415-3805. E:mail should be addressed to smitgw@inel.gov. A description of the technology follows. ABSTRACT: BBWI has patented the following technology: "Method and Apparatus for Low Temperature Destruction of Halogenated Hydrocarbons", U. S. Patent Number 5,994,604. Halongenated organics are mixed with solvating agents and chemical reductants at predetermined temperature, pressure, and atmosphere composition. The mix is contacted with a recyclable reactive catalytic material to create dehalogenated organics and byproducts. OPPORTUNITY SUMMARY: INEEL is seeking financial support to continue research and development for improvements to its patented technology in order to enhance its efficiency and build a demonstration unit; thus validating claims based upon anticipated improvements. This method of destroying halogenated compounds provides an economic alternative to incineration and does not create secondary wastes that could be generated by incomplete combustion. Industry partners will be given an opportunity to enter into a license agreement to commercialize this new technological improvement.
