- Description
- NIH is anxious to identify small business sized, patent law firms with substantial expertise and experience in the areas of scientific/medical research patents. The applicable NAICS code is 541110 with a small business size standard of $5,000,000. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) requires patent related services from several firms that provide patent prosecution, specialized patent services and licensing consultation. A contractor may provide services in one or more than on of the designated areas listed in the statement of work. The contractor shall provide the patent legal services to the Office of Technology Training (OTT), NIH. Pursuant to the Federal Technology Transfer Act (FTTA), the NIH has a significant program in patenting and licensing inventions with commercial potential. The OTT currently handles patent prosecution for the NIH and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is expected that OTT will seek to file 200-250 new patent applications each year. Our active patent prosecution docket is in excess of 1,300 cases. As would be expected in the world's largest biomedical research institution, the inventions claimed in our patent portfolio fall generally into the following research categories: cardiovascular, pulmonary, cancer therapeutics, AIDS, infectious diseases, immunology, genetic engineering, neurology, psychiatry, endocrinology, metabolic diseases, dermatology, gynecology, and obstetrics, eye-ear-nose and throat, dental, research tools, and bioinstrumentation. For the purpose of this contract, two categories of invention will encompass the research categories. They are: biochemical and mechanical/electrical/miscellaneous. If you are a small business sized law firm with appropriate expertise and experience you are invited to supply evidence of that capability within the next 15 days to the Contracting Officer listed above. Please elaborate on the educational background, areas of research and work experience of your scientific/medical content experts.
