- Description
- The San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park is soliciting proposals from qualified organizations to enter into a firm-fixed price contract to provide services to dry-dock and repair the Historic Schooner C.A. Thayer. Competition level is full and open. The Schooner C.A. Thayer requires cyclic dry-docking to do underwater work and above water repairs. The vessel will be transported, dry-docked, and blocked. Work below the waterline includes bottom cleaning, draining, inspection, service through hull fittings, repair of worm damaged planking, reefing and caulking of seems and butts, preparation and painting of the underwater hull. The contractor shall also be required to develop a new blocking plan to compensate for a significant loss of longitudinal strength and to measure the keel profile. Above water work includes paint topside surfaces, replace the mizzenmast, and remove the donkey boiler. The contractor shall provide a dry-dock or lifting facility that is safe to handle the vessel's displacement and its caravel planked, iron fastened hull form. The Historic Ship C.A. Thayer is a three- masted schooner with the following characteristics: overall length of 219 feet, waterline length of 156 feet, maximum beam of 33 feet, 8 inches, draft forward of 9 feet, 3 inches, gross tonnage of 452 tons, net tonnage of 390 tons, and constructed of Douglas Fir wood. The hull is considered to be in fair condition with localized areas of severe deterioration. The contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, equipment, transportation, blocking, staging, tools, and any necessary temporary support for structures or equipment that may be affected by the requirements of this specification. All contract performance shall be in conformance with environmental and safety laws or regulations unless otherwise stipulated. The ship is subject to historical compliance within Federal and State codes.
