Description
This synopsis is being used as a tool to request information from interested sources regarding: Miniature gyroscopes that can be integrated with GPS receivers to produce a small (size determined by power requirements but no larger than a small shoebox) Embedded GPS Inertial Navigation System (EGI). This system would be small enough to be carried in a fighter-sized cockpit, able to withstand the amount of G-forces that are typically encountered on fighter aircraft, and would have the advantage of no aircraft hardware modification allowing it to be used on any platform (Joint, combined, helicopters, ground vehicles, heavies). Additionally, the integration of miniature Gyros to a pointing device (such as an IR pointer, or binoculars, or even a clip on helmet mounted sight) would also produce a target coordinate/elevation capability. The Gyros on the pointing device would track and record where the pointing device was pointing, and when combined with Digital Terrain Elevation Data (DTED), the EGI could calculate and display the coordinates and elevation. This application could be used for confirming coordinates, providing coordinates for such purposes as inputs for GPS munitions, or for battle damage assessment (BDA) purposes. Additionally, the system must have an independent power source and a recording device that provides users the ability to download a data file incorporating time and position information from the GPS along with attitude information from the INU (2 miniature Gyros on a circuit board). The file would be merged with Digital Transfer Cartridge (DTC) weapons release parameters for those aircraft equipped (A-10, F-16, F-15E) to show weapons release for use during debriefs to show 3-dimensional flight profiles for multiple aircraft (similar to ACMI debrief). Thus, providing inexpensive rangeless ACMI capability for training/combat flight debrief and providing a target coordinate/elevation device.
