Description

The Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division intends to purchase services on a "sole source" basis, under FAR 6.302-1, via contract with The Pennsylvania State University. The Pennsylvania State University, in conjunction with Stanford University, developed compounds under Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Grant Number MDA972-97-1-0008, that require additional testing and evaluation. The Pennsylvania State University will coordinate and report on independent testing and evaluation of the lead compounds developed under DARPA Grant Number MDA972-97-1-0008. Goal of the effort is to (1) determine the mechanism by which Bacillus anthracis and the alpha-class pathogens acquire drug resistance to lead compounds developed under DARPA Grant No. MDA972-97-1-0008, (2) develop schemes for thwarting resistance mechanism by examining modifications to the compounds to make it difficult for bacteria to counteract, and (3) ascertain the breadth of activity against in vivo targets of the lead compounds. Period of performance is estimated at 6 months. Currently, Stanford University is otherwise committed and The Pennsylvania State University is the only fully cognizant agent prepared to perform the required effort. The Government does not plan to issue a Request for Proposal. Interested parties are invited to identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement.
