Description

Notice of availability of a prospectus for the award of a long-term concession contract authorizing the year-round operation of a family sports center for the public within Floyd Bennett Field, Jamaica Bay Unit, Gateway National Recreation Area, Brooklyn, New York. The concessioner shall adaptively develop an historic hangar complex into a major family-oriented sports center with food service. An ice skating facility was determined to be feasible as the primary attraction, but other options will be considered. Acceptable secondary activities are: roller hockey, fitness modules, swimming, lap pool, basketball, volleyball, rock climbing wall, indoor tennis, track and field, sport simulators, aerobics classes, gymnastics, and associated services such as meeting rooms, locker room services, etc. Rides, electronic games, videos and games of chance are not allowed. Pro formas are required to demonstrate effective stabilization investment and cost of adapting the hangars to a sports center as well as conceptual plans and design. The estimated cost for stabilization of the hangars and development of the sports center is $13 million. Estimated completion date is 2003. The Director, National Park Service, has determined that pursuant to 36 CFR Part 51.36, no preferred offeror for this contract exists. There is no incumbent concessioner. Offers are due September 4, 2001.
