Description
THIS IS A SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE. This is not a request for proposals. This synopsis is for information, planning and evaluation purposes only, and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government. The U.S. Army TACOM-ARDEC, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ, is interested in reviewing and evaluating new technologies and/or commercially available blasting cap/shock tube assemblies which are activated by means of a factory assemblied in-line primer. The primer, which is built into the shock tube lead, should be capable of being reliably initiated with a Mk 55 Handheld Firing Device or the firing pin of the M81 Igniter. It should be waterproof to 95 PSI for 4 hours exposure and have tensile/pull strength on the shock tube line of at least 25 pounds without casuing the unit to fail. Specifically, the blasting cap assemblies with in- line primer shall consist of M42C1 primer built into the end of a 500 foot and/or 1000 foot pyrotechnic lead(known as shock tube), outside diameter not to exceed 0.095 inch, (desirable 0.080 inch), with a non-electric factory installed non delay blasting cap (outside diameter of 0.230 inch to 0.241 inch, length of 2.25 inch to 2.35 inch) attached at the other end with an output equivalent to a number 12 commercial blasting cap. The blasting cap shall be capable of initiating composition C-4. The shock tube shall be wound around a durable spool. The end of the in-line initiator shock tube shall protrude from the center of the spool core and extend a minimum of 24 inches from the spool head. The interface fitting shall be 7/16"-20 nut for mating with MK55 and/or 5/8"-20UN-2B end cap for the M81 Igniter. Enough splicing material shall be supplied with the spool to make at least five splices to repair the shock tube or to be used as an interface with standard military time fuse igniters (outside diameter of splice material 0.200 inch + or -- 0.010 inch). The Handheld Firing Device consists of an aluminum cylinder approximately 5.25 inches long and 0.50 inch in diameter. The firing end of the firing device is internally threaded to receive the applicable initiator. Interested firms are invited to submit, in writing, information on the items by COB NLT 25 May 2001. Interested parties are encouraged to submit descriptive literature, catalogs, descriptions/drawings of the items offered, catalog prices for different quantities (i.e. 100 each, 200 each, 300 each and so on up to 1000 each units), lead time to deliver the item after Government award of purchase order, etc. All information is to be furnished at no cost or obligation to the Government.
