Description
The USAE, Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) proposes to issue a sole source contract to MTS, Argyle, TX for the purchase of a Testar II controller upgrade meeting the following specifications: 1. Controller Upgrade for MTS Model 493.01 chassis Model 458 controller with 110-kip capacity. The controller shall provide: (a) Digital servo control, function generation, data acquisition, hydraulic control, and digital I/O; (b) Data acquisition with 16-bit resolution, 6-KHz data acquisition rate; (c) Function generation by 32-bit processor, standard haversine, square, and ramp waveforms and downloaded wave shapes; (d) Computer controlled transducer limits; (e) Eight uncommitted channels of digital I/O (4 in, 4 out); (f) Slots for up to 5 conditioning modules; (g) Automated dynamic control mode switching between any connected transducer. Any connected transducer or calculation can be selected for control (typical load, strain or displacement) including load limited displacement during specimen loading; (h) Two computer-selectable channels of 16-bit resolution analog output for easy access to transducer signals and other critical parameters; (i) Cables for hydraulic control, servovalves, conditioners, and communications to personal computer. 2. Remote Station Control Panel. The control panel shall provide: (a) Local actuator and hydraulic control at the load unit for ease of specimen loading; (b) A display for test specific information; (c) 4 application defined function keys for test specific control; (d) Control of hydraulic pressure; (e) Actuator positioning controller to move actuator during specimen loading and removal; (f) Load limited displacement available as a control mode for safe specimen loading; (g) Test control buttons to stop, start, hold, and resume tests from the load unit; (h) LED indication of interlocks with reset button; (i) Easy to see LED indication of switch status. 3. Universal Conditioner. The conditioner shall provide: (a) Transducer conditioning for both AC and DC transducers; (b) Normalized with an on board reference for easy portability of calibrations; (c) Low noise, low drift, high accuracy signal conditioning; (d) Computer control of range, transducer zero, excitation, filter; (e) Traceable calibration for each range; (f) Shunt calibration for each range; (g) Supports strain gage bridge completion; (h) Excitation loss detection; (i) Computer controlled limit detection. 4. Two Stage Valve Driver. The valve driver shall provide: (a) Servo-valve drive signal for 2-stage servovalves; (b) Supports signal or dual style servovalves; (c) Computer controller dither amplitude and frequency; (d) Digitally controlled fault protection logic; (e) 16-bit resolution on valve D/A; 5. Floor Mounting for Remove Station Control Panel. 6. Remote Emergency Stop. 7. Pump Interface box, 24V. Control box shall include the interconnecting cables from the controller chassis to the pump interface box. 8. Cables. Cables are depended on the system configuration in which the controlled will be connected. (a) Load/Torque Cell Cable Adapter, PT to MS Connector; (b) Extensometer Cable Adapter, PT to Amphenol Connector; (c) Ethernet / Workstation Link Cable, 10ft /3m; (d) Ground Cable, 25ft / 7m; (e) Load Transducer ID Cable, PT, 5ft / 1.5m; (f) LVDT Transducer ID Cable, 5ft / 1.5m; (g) Extensometer Transducer ID Cable, PT, 5ft / 1.5m; (h) Transducer Cable, 25ft / 7m; (i) HSM Cable, 290, 293, 294, 115V, Hi / Low, 25ft / 7m; (j) HSM Cable, 298.12, 25ft / 7m; (k) Dual Valve Cable, 25ft / 7m; (l) HPU Cable, 24V, 25ft / 7m; (m) E-Stop Cable, 25ft / 7m; (n) RSC / E-Stop Cable, 25ft / 7m; (o) 493.xx Chassis to 493.07 Interconnect Cable, 10ft / 3m, 24V. 9. Compaq Pentium III / 733. (a) Pentium III/733MHz, 815E Processor; (b) 128MB SDRAM Memory, 256KB L2 CACHE Memory; (c) 10GB SMART III Ultra ATA/66 Hard Drive, 1.44MB Diskette Drive; (d) CD-ROM, X48, Tray Load; (e) INTEL 3d Direct AGP w/GPA, 8MB Display Cache; (f) Integrated Intel Pro/100 VM Network Connection, RJ-45; (g) Integrated Intel Audio W/Premium Internal Speaker; (h) Slots: Total/Available: 5/5 PCI, 1/0 AGP; (i) Bays: Total/Available: 2/1 Internal, 3/1 External; (j) 17-in. SVGA Monitor. 10. On-site Installation. 11. Calibration of Load, Stroke, and Strain at 100% and 10%. 12. Multi-Purpose software. Multi-purpose software shall enable: Integration of function generation, data, acquisition, and test sequencing with data stored to disk in ASCII format for analysis with third party tools such as Excel (TM). Multi-Purpose Software functions shall include: (a) Data acquisition (Timed, Peak/Valley, Level Crossing, Max/Min, Cyclic/Logarithmic); (b) Function generation up to 100 Hz on all channels; (c) Sine, square, triangle, ramp, hold, processes, and ability to play digitized profiles; (d) Soft start/stop available on all channels; (e) Limit sensing, sequencing triggers, and interface to 32 Digital I/O (16 in/16 out). 13. System Software. System software shall provide: (a) Software interface for configuring the controller and the user interface to the test station. The user can enter and save user preferences (units, valve adjustments, loop timing) for recall at anytime; (b) Two channel on-line data display (X vs. Y or Time vs. YY), digital displays, and a function generator for setting up tuning parameters and warming up the system prior to testing. 14. Basic Software: Provides an easy program for simple monotonic and cyclic test execution including data acquisition. Test data may be stored in your choice of ASC II, Lotus, or Excel formats for analysis with your favorite tools. 15. Peak Valley Control (PVC): Corrects for peaks and mean levels in cyclic waveforms. PVC is our most popular and widely used compensation tool. 16. Lifecycle Software Agreement for one year: (a) The Lifecycle Software Agreement (LSA) makes it easy and cost effective to keep pace with rapidly changing technologies; (b) LSA owners receive all software updates (enhancements) and software upgrades (new capabilities) that become available after your initial purchase; (c) Coverage includes Multi-Purpose software and all related applications. 17. Hydraulic Wedge Grip Set: (a) Force Capacity: 110-Kip Dynamic, 110-Kip Static; (b) Adjustable gripping pressures to accommodate a variety of specimen materials; (c) Temperature range: -40 to 250 F; (d) Mounting thread: 1.0 in-14 UNF-2B. 18. Hydraulic Grip Control: (a) Accuracy controls pressure to hydraulic grips; (b) Controls pressure from 100 to 3000-psi; (c) Includes hoses to load unit and grips; (d) Requires 3000-psi oil supply from load unit. 19. Wedge Set: (a) Flat, width, 4.00-in (101-mm); (b) Face, 90-degree diamond; (c) Specimen Range: 0.00 -- 0.43-in. (0.0 -- 10.9-mm); (d) Temperature Range, -40 to 350 F (-40 to 177 C); (e) Vee, width, 4-00-in. (101-mm); (f) Serrated; (g) Specimen Range: 0.25-in. to 0.50-in. / 0.61-in. (top loading) (6.4- to 12.7-mm / 15.5-mm); (h) Temperature Range: 40 to 350 F (-40 to 177 C). 20. Attachment Kit -- Grip to Actuator: Load capacity of grip is matched to actuator. 21. Attachment Kit -- Grip to Load Cell: Load capacity of grip is mismatched to load cell. 22. Servo Basic Package: (a) Advanced Mechanical Testing Software for the Windows NT Operating systems; (b) Provides extensive capability to setup, run, analyze and report material and mechanical testing, properties; (c) General Testing Package includes Tensile, Flex, Peel/Tear, and compression; (d) Manuals included in Electronic Format on CD; (e) Includes advanced rate control option allowing tests in strain and load control in addition to displacement control. 23. Operation Training Course: (a) Training for Servo Hydraulic systems shall introduce the student to the basic operating principles of the servo hydraulic test system; (b) Students shall be provided with a 'hand-on' approach to learn how to run and analyze tests along with modifying existing test methods and procedures; (c) Sessions shall consist of a combination of classroom and laboratory exercises using all software; (d) Students will set-up and run a tensile and compression tests using the compression tests using the concepts they have learned in class. This system is the only known system of this type that is commercially available that meets or exceeds the minimum selection criteria and the procurement of all systems are critical to the Corps of Engineers' Geotechnical/Structures Laboratory (Concrete and Materials Branch) Research and Development Program. A firm fixed-price contract will be awarded utilizing the Simplified Acquisition Procedures.
