- Description
- The General Services Administration, Federal Technology Service, Region 8, Denver, and its Client, U.S. Air Force Academy Department of Astronautics, Colorado Springs Colorado, intend to procure on a Sole Source basis from Surrey Satellite Technology LTD, University of Surrey, Guildford, Surrey, GU0 2XH,UK, +44 1483 259278, the following services: to build, test and deliver a flight set(s) of the core BUS systems. These systems include power, communications and data handling subsystems; in addition to the Subsystems Integration Module (the interface between the payload and the CAN network). In addition, the following items will be provided by the contractor; 1 set, flight-quality subsystems modules, 2 sets, flight-quality subsystems modules, 1 set, flight-quality modules with on-board computer RAM increase to 8MB, 2 sets, flight-quality modules with on-board computer RAM increase to 8MB, 1 set flight-quality batteries. Delivery 6 months after contract start. A SOLICITATION WILL NOT BE ISSUED as a result of the CBD. Only one order will be issued for this requirement, no partials. PURPOSE: The need for these services/deliverables is to create modular system architectures that enable rapid prototyping as well as system integration and testing. IMPACT: Creating the modular system architectures is one way to reduce the high cost of space system development and engineering, that often occurs before participation/use by academic institutions. JUSTIFICATION FOR OTHER THAN FULL AND OPEN COMPETITION: Surrey Satellite technology LTD and the Surrey Space Centre have an on-going research & development effort in system architecture called the Surrey Naosatellite Applications research Program (SNAP). The USAFA Astronautics Department is in Phase III of this on-going project that involves the procurement of a flight set of core modules for integration onto the FalconSat structure with USAFA payload experiments. Concerns having the ability to furnish the above services/supplies are requested to give written notification (including the telephone number for a point of contact) to the acquiring office listed in this notice within 15-calendar days from the date of this synopsis. This notification should clearly show their ability to do so without compromising the quality, accuracy and reliability of the requirement. This is not a formal solicitation. However, concerns that respond should furnish detailed data concerning their capabilities and may request a copy of the solicitation when it becomes available.
