Description
The USDOT will work with a public/private partnership, with a = State DOT taking the lead role, in the development of a regional, = multi-modal, real-time traveler information system that can deliver = information to travelers using the newly designated 511 telephone = number. The system envisioned in this 511 model deployment is one = which will facilitate coordination of partners across agency and = jurisdictional boundaries to pool resources relating to system = performance and will disseminate this information to travelers through = a 511 telephone service. A two-phase approach will be applied to the = development of this model deployment. In Phase I, a lead agency will = be identified who will be responsible for coordinating with relevant = stakeholders so that all available travel modes are included in the = service. Phase I will culminate in the initial roll out of 511 = service. In Phase II, the lead agency will leverage the efforts = pursued by the FHWA and AASHTO for interface guidance, minimum = performance guidelines, and coordination with Public Safety Answering = Points (PSAPs), geo-location of callers for location-based information, = etc. Phase II tasks will be defined in detail at a later date = depending on the progress of Phase I activities. Proposals will be = assessed on their technical, staffing and financial merit, and funding = will be provided through a cooperative agreement between the FHWA and a = State DOT. Multiple awards are anticipated and total federal funding = available for this activity is $1,100,000.
