Description
This notice is not intended to solicit proposals, but for informational purposes only. Sole source negotiations with the University of Florida, College of Medicine, Department of Medicine, a State Agency, to continue the study entitled, MARCKS-Actin Structure and Function: Implications for Neuroplasticity. The PI is Michael R. Bubb, M.D. The overall objective of this contract is to define quantitative aspects of the interaction between MARCKS and actin using biophysical techniques. Time dependent fluorescence anisotropy, fluorescence energy transfer, analytical ultracentrifugation and 3-dimensional molecular modeling will be used to assess on- and off-rates, stoichiometry and structural relationships. The rationale for this proposed contract is to identify lead compounds to be developed as mimics of MARCKS function, thus providing pharmacologic agents that will be potentially useful in the treatment of neuropsychiatric diseases associated with defects in the cellular architecture of the brain, including for example, age-associated memory loss, traumatic brain injury, and manic-depressive illness. Study will begin at the date of award (October 2001) for one year with 2 optional years for renewal. Authority 6.302, See Note (s): 22.
