- Description
- This notice is not intended to solicit proposals, but for informational purposes only. Sole source negotiations with the University of Florida, College of Medicine, Department of Medicine, a State Agency, to continue the study entitled, MARCKS-Actin Structure and Function: Implications for Neuroplasticity. The PI is Michael R. Bubb, M.D. The overall objective of this contract is to define the structure of MARCKS peptides that interact with actin using NMR spectroscopy. NMR data will be used to restrict molecular dyanamic simulations that will result in three-dimensional models of the MARCKS peptides with atomic resolution. The rationale for this proposed contract is that the MARCKS peptide structures will provide information about requirements for actin-binding function that will then lead to the identification of compounds to be developed as mimics of MARCKS function, thus providing pharmacologic agents that will be potentially useful in the treatment of neuropsychiatric diseases associated with defects in the cellular architecture of the brain, including for example, age-associated memory loss, traumatic brain injury, and manic-depressive illness. Study will begin at the date of award (September 2001) for one year with 2 optional years for renewal. Authority 6.302, See Note (s): 22.
