Description

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) plans to negotiate a = Purchase Order with the University of Tennessee Center for = Transportation Research (CTR) for a project entitled, ?Safety = Assessment of Urban Transportation Systems?. This purpose of this = project is to develop and test practical tools for assessing the safety = impacts of alternative transportation for urban areas. This project = will entail extensive involvement of traffic safety experts such as = practicing transportation planners from Metropolitan Planning = Organizations (MPO?s) and State Department of Transportation?s (DOT?s). = CTR has been recognized as the leader in the development of safety = analysis techniques for application in the transportation planning = process. Additionally, CTR performed groundbreaking work as part of a = national study on how safety has and can be considered a part of the = transportation planning process and the development of assessment = techniques for transportation safety is a critical effort for the = successful consideration of safety within the transportation planning = process. Because CTR has an extensive level of expertise and possess a = unique knowledge of this very new and emerging area they are the only = known source available that can ensure the successful completion of = this project. This is a Simplified Acquisition and the anticipated = award date is on or about June 22, 2001.
