Description

The objective of this contract is to provide the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management (OCRWM), Yucca Mountain Site Characterization Office (YMSCO), with technical support services for the development, preparation and issuance of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation. The support required under this contract will ensure that activities mandated by the Nuclear Waste Policy Act (NWPA), as amended, are conducted in compliance with the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969, the Council of Environmental Quality (CEQ) regulations, and DOE NEPA implementing regulations. NEPA documentation under this contract will include development of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to assess the environmental impacts associated with the construction, operation, monitoring, and eventual closure of a potential geologic repository for spent nuclear fuel and high-level nuclear waste generated from both civilian and defense activities. The EIS will also review operational and design alternatives and address transportation of spent nuclear fuel and high level waste from points of origin across the country to the potential repository at Yucca Mountain, Nevada. Jason, the incumbent Contractor, prepared the Draft EIS and Supplemental Draft EIS. See Note 22.
