- Description
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) contemplates = awarding a contract to administer clinical and epidemiologic components = of CDC's Early Detection Research Network (EDRN) study of cervical = cancer that is being conducted using the existing health infrastructure = and gynecologic patient population of an urban area with high risk = women. The administrative objectives will be to recruit and enroll = eligible women to ensure safe and proper clinical evaluation and sample = collection, and to collect and accurately record all patient and = epidemiologic information required for the study. The project is a = study of preinvasive cervical lesions in a high-risk urban population = of women. For this requirement, urban is defined as a metropolitan = area (as defined by OMB) population of at least 2 million and a high = risk clinic population is defined as: (1) greater than 60% in minority = racial or ethnic groups; and (2) greater than 50% below the poverty = level or 50% attending public health clinics. With successful patient = enrollment, clinical evaluation and sample collection, the goal of = identifying and validating molecular signatures of incipient neoplasias = to improve cancer survival by early detection of lesions at a = preinvasive or early stage amenable to chemoprevention, chemp = therapeutics and curative therapy can be realized. To be considered = eligible for this acquisition, Offerors must meet the following = absolute eligibility criteria. Each Offeror must: (1) be a public or = private academic institution, medical center, or health department in = the United States; (2) have access to an urban population at high risk, = as defined above, for cervical cancer; (3) have a Principal = Investigator with an MD with a Board Certification in Family Practice = or Gynecology and Obstetrics, a Masters or PhD in Public Health, a = minimum of 10 years experience with epidemiologic studies, who has been = PI for a least one study involving coordinating multiple sites and one = study funded by a peer-reviewed agency like NIH or ACS; (4) experience = with studies that required shipping data and biologic specimens to a = site via mail; (5) demonstrate access to a patient population in which = the Offeror can reasonably predict ability to identify, and recruit = into the study 4 women with dysplasia and 4 race and age matched = control women each week for up to three years and (6) provide = colposcopic directed biopsy confirmation of cervical lesions for all = women with dysplasia by loaning pathology slides to CDC for review. = The SIC code for this requirement is 8069. The NAICS code for this = requirement is 622110. The scheduled issued date is approximately July = 3, 2001. No telephone requests will be accepted; ONLY WRITTEN REQUESTS = FOR THIS SOLICITATION WILL BE HONORED. Requests for this solicitation = may be emailed to Susan Kiddoo at skiddoo@cdc.gov or faxed to (770) = 488-2670 or 2671. Please cite RFP No. 2001-N-00112 in the subject = line, and include your name, mailing address, phone number, and email = address. All responsible sources that meet the above requirements may = submit a proposal which will be considered by the Agency.
