Description
This serves as Notice of Intention to issue a Prospectus for renewal of five concession contracts for operation of guided interpretive backcountry mountain bike tours in Canyonlands National Park. The National Park Service will be releasing a concession Prospectus requiring the continuation of multiple day guided interpretive backcountry mountain bike tours and authorizing vehicle support services to non-commercial mountain bike tours in Canyonlands National Park and guided interpretive backcountry mountain bike tours lasting for one day or less in the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands National Park. These operations are seasonal in nature with most tours occurring from March through early June and from September through early November. The 1999 annual gross receipts for the five concessioners ranged from $18,626 to $141,920. No government owned facilities or structures will be assigned in the park for concessioners' use. Concessioners will locate their offices, support facilities, warehouses, etc., on private property located outside the park. Backcountry mountain bike tours occur inside Canyonlands National Park on the four-wheel drive road system. The five current concessioners have operated successfully and satisfactorily during the term of the current concession permits. As satisfactory operators with annual gross receipts of less than $500,000 the current concessioners are preferred offerors as provided for in Public Law 105-391 and in 36 CFR Part 51. All interested parties must apply for each specific operation they are interested in, in response to the Prospectus. The current concession permits expire December 31, 2001. EFFECTIVE DATE: The Prospectus will be issued June 11, 2001 for a 120 day response period under the terms described in the Prospectus with proposals due on October 10, 2001, no later than 4:00 p.m. There is a charge of $35 per copy for the Prospectus if you would like it mailed (Federal Express) or $30 with no mailing and you pick it up at the below address. Checks (no cash accepted) must be made out to the National Park Service and you must include a business address (no post office box) to receive a Federal Express package.
