Description

The Armed Forces Information Service (AFIS) intends to procure a DoD-wide Visual Information Management System for the encoding, indexing, storing, searching, distributing, and managing of multimedia assets. The requirements document has not been fully developed. AFIS solicits industry input on several areas of current and evolving commercial practices and standards to augment our effort to develop a requirements document. Of particular interest are MPEG 4 codecs/encoders and delivery timeframes, SANS and associated storage forecasts with performance predictions, Itanium based servers, DVD jukebox technology, the direction of asset management system search functionality, the impact of MPEG 4 on edge delivery, JPEG 2000 wavelet encoders and management techniques/tools for the dynamic control and distribution of on-demand multimedia delivery.
