Description

This is a solicitation notice to furnish all labor, material, equipment, transportation, and supervision to perform the removal of broken bricks and mortar and replacing with new bricks and major repointing throughout the interior of the massive Doric column at Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial. The memorial was designated a national monument in 1936 and is on the National Register of Historic Places (10/15/66). The column shaft was constructed between 1912 and 1915 with large granite blocks, which were shaped to form column flutes in a running bond pattern. The column interior, lined with brick above the lower gallery/elevator platform level is 27' -- 6" constant inside diameter, even though the exterior diameter tapers from 45' to 35' -- 6". The work will be limited to the interior brick liner from the solid granite at the throat of the column just below the capital extending approximately 240 feet downward. Contractor access to the work high in the space will be challenging and may require the use of basket chairs and/or specialized scaffolding. Performance time will be limited to 365 days, as the column is located on a 25 acre site on South Bass Island in Lake Erie about 3 miles from the mainland. Ferries operate daily from April through November from Catawba Point and Port Clinton. NAICS code: 235410. The small business size standard is $11.5 million. Estimated price range of the project is between $250,000 and $500,000. Solicitation No. I6068010083 will be available on/or about August 13, 2001.
