Description
The purpose of this project is to refurbish a minimum of twelve (12) existing headboxes in the Western Fisheries Research Center's wet laboratory. Refurbishing the headboxes will solve the problem of potential cross contamination of fish disease, structural damage, and slipping hazard in the wet lab. Repair will involve decommissioning each headbox, drying them out, coating the tank interior, and reinstalling the piping to the tanks. Headboxes in the Seattle wet laboratory function to mix and deliver water to the fish tanks and are a critical component of all live fish experiments. The WFRC is a 60,000 square foot laboratory of which approximately 10,000 square feet are dedicated to the wet laboratory which at any given time hosts 20 to 30 long and short term live fish experiments. Due to safety concerns, a minimum of two workers shall be on the project any given time work is being performed where there is any exposure to any industrial hazard. This includes fall danger due to the requirement that work be done in place approximately 15 feet above various aquatic experiments. The work will need to be performed during daylight hours and within a 'greenhouse' to protect light sensitive experiments and prevent dust from entering the sensitive research environment. The uniqueness of the laboratory and location of the headboxes requires the work to be done in place (approximately 15 feet above ground) with no disruption to on going experiments. The contractor must be capable of working in the unique wet laboratory environment and be able to complete headbox renovations with no disruption to on going experiments. The magnitude of this project is between $25,000 and $100,000. A solicitation will be issued on or about August 6, 2001 and posted on the Department of Interior National Business Center Electronic Commerce Website at http://ideasec.nbc.gov. All interested parties should visit the site and follow Vendor Registration instructions. Quotes will only be accepted through the electronic commerce system. Size Standard NAICS 233310 and $27.5 million applies.
