Description
This is a synopsis for commercial items, prepared in accordance with the format in FAR subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. Proposals are being requested and a written solicitation will be issued. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has a requirement for the furnishing of Rhesus (Macaca Mulatta) non-human primates as requested by individual order and in accordance with the specifications and standards listed in the solicitation. Specifically, the contractor shall be required to supply the following strains of primates in the estimated quantities as ordered by individual investigators: Rhesus, SPF, Male or Female, 2-5 kg, Any DOB, estimated quantity 20 (base year)/estimated quantity 30 (option years);Rhesus, Non-SPF, Male or Female, 2-5 kg, Any DOB estimated quantity 70 (base year)/estimated quantities 70 (option years); SPF testing for rhesus monkeys. Shipping crates and transportation costs shall be included in offeror proposals. The contractor shall obtain, prior to the start of any work under this contract, an approved Animal Welfare Assurance from the Office of Protection from Research Risks (OPRR), Office of the Director, NIH, as required by Section I-43-30 of the Public Health Service policy on Humane Care and Use of Laoratory Animals. The Contractor's shall maintain such assurance for the duration of this contract, and any subcontractors performing work under this contract involving the use of animals shall also obtain and maintain an approved Animal Welfare Assurance. Transportation shall be in compliance with the Animal Welfare Act requirements, Title 9, Subchapter A, Part 3, "Transportation Standards", and CDC guidelines as required. The contractor period of performance will be for one twelve (12) month period, with options to renew for four (4) additional twelve (12) month periods. The award of a fixed price, indefinite delivery, (requirements) type contract is anticipated. This requirement is not a set aside. The applicable NAICS Code is 112990. The solicitation document will be released on or about August 27, 2001, with a due date of September 6, 2001.
