Description
Air Force Research Laboratory, Human Effectiveness Directorate, Human Interface Branch (AFRL/HECP) solicits research proposals for Adaptive Anthropometric Accommodation. There are four interrelated objectives of this acquisition: 1) to explore methods for and develop a database and information system that will enable designers of crew stations and equipment to design for the user and provide for the selection of appropriate users, based on effective application of anthropometric data, 2) to develop better methods to understand and quantify the effects and interrelationships between equipment fit, workload, marginal anthropometry, physical capability, cognitive capability, and increasingly equipped states on pilot performance, 3) to develop new ways to quantify and characterize the anthropometric variability of military populations for engineering and safety applications and 4) to develop methods to transition fit, accommodation and anthropometric technologies to the engineering and safety communities. New technological advances have been made in the field of engineering anthropometry that have given us an ability to measure the crew system interfaces in ways never before possible. It is now possible to measure automatically and in 3-D 1) the surface detail of the human body, 2) the detail of equipment and apparel, and 3) the geometric relationship between the equipment and/or apparel and the human. This, added to the ability to track 3-D landmarks during dynamic motion synchronized with video and analog signals, permits us to measure the impact of size, shape, workload, equipment, and other stressors on performance. The challenge is to improve the ability to use this new technology and get the results in the hands of the engineers, designers, acquisition programs, and policy decision makers who need the information. Interested offerors may view and/or download the full PRDA solicitation by accessing the Electronic Posting System (EPS) homepage at http://www.eps.gov/. Direct questions to the Contracting point of contact identified in the announcement.
