Description

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) plans to negotiate a Purchase Order with Ayres Associates to develop a FHWA Publication entitled, "Hydraulic Engineering Circular for Tidal Hydrology and Hydraulics." The purpose of this project is to develop a publication that will present guidance for understanding the tidal and coastal process and its effect on stream stability and scour at bridges over a tidally influenced environment. The goal of the publication is to provide guidance for developing the hydraulic variables needed for the analysis of a new bridge or for the evaluation of an existing bridge over a tidally influenced environment. Ayres Associates, Inc, has extensive experience in tidal hydraulics and has been responsible for developing the Tidal Hydraulics Manual for a study in Tidal Hydraulics for coastal states in the United States. Additionally, a staff member of Ayres Associates is co-author of the FHWA primary publication on scour HEC-18 that includes information on tidal hydraulics. Because Ayres has extensive technical knowledge and experience on tidal hydraulics and is responsible for developing the Tidal Hydraulics Manual and the primary publication on scour, they are the only known source that can successfully develop this publication. This is a Simplified Acquisition and the anticipated award date is September 3, 2001.
