Description

17. The Project work consists of removing shoals along the Entrance Channel Cut-1N. The contract will require the removal of approximately 200,000 cubic yards (CY) of material from Cut-1N between station 100+00 and Station 220+00 with beach placement at the designated beach disposal area located along the beach at the north end of Fernandina Beach (approximately 4 miles from the project site). The contract will also require the removal of approximately 28,000 CY of material from Cut-1N between Station 220+00 and Station 230+00 (north half of channel) with placement in the designated nearshore disposal area, D/A-N, located approximately 7 miles from the project site. Finally, the contract will require the removal of approximately 672,000 CY of material from Cut-1N between Station 220+00 and Station 230+00 (south half of Channel) and between Station 230+00 and Station 340+00 with placement in the designated ocean disposal area, D/A-O, located approximately 12 miles from the project site. The total quantity of material to be dredged is approximately 900,000 CY. Hopper dredges only will be allowed to bid on this contract and the hopper dredge will only be allowed to work during the period of 15 December through 28 February. Work also includes sea turtle trawling and relocation, turbidity monitoring and endangered species monitoring. Magnitude of Construction is between $5,000,000 and $10,000,000. Invitation for Bid will be issued on or about 14 September 2001 and open on or about 30 October 2001. Solicitation will be issued in electronic format only.
