Description

The Volpe National Transportation System Center is issuing a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) to solicit research proposals on a competitive basis to demonstrate technology and systems capable of reducing runway incursions and improving overall safety on the airport surface for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The proposed Runway Status Lights System (RSLS) will enhance airport safety through the use of surveillance-based, automatically controlled status lights to alert pilots or ground vehicle operators that a runway is unsafe for entry, crossing, or departure.
