Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Precision Engineering Division, intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), with the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Charlotte, NC for two (2) precision translation stages articulated in six (6) degrees of freedom to compensate guiding errors inherent in commercial stages. A prototype has already been developed and two (2) final stages are required.***Sole source determination is based on the University of North Carolina at Charlotte's unique knowledge and understanding of this requirement due to their involvement in a previous requirement completing engineering services which lead to the development of the prototype. This is a follow-on requirement which will complete the final stages of development.***Delivery shall be FOB Destination, Gaithersburg, MD, and is required within 365 days after receipt of order.***The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 611310, and the size standard is $5 million.***No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations, however, responses received by September 12, 2001 will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
