Description

The Department of Defense, TRICARE Management Activity (TMA) is in the initial stage of developing a solicitation for pharmacy services. The anticipated acquisition will consolidate the existing Mail Order Pharmacy Program and retail pharmacy services. It is anticipated the government will award one contract which will provide global pharmacy services to approximately 8.5 million beneficiaries. Within the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam, the successful contractor will be required to maintain a retail pharmacy network of no fewer than 40,000 pharmacies. The Mail Order Pharmacy portion of the contract will take effect October 6, 2002. A firm schedule for implementing the retail pharmacy portion of the contract has not yet been determined, but may occur as early as October 6, 2002; or, may be phased in over a 2 to 3 year period. TMA is sponsoring an industry forum to discuss the upcoming acquisition. Interested firms are invited to attend this one day forum on September 26, 2001, at 0800 -- 1500 hrs at the Doubletree Hotel Denver Southeast, 13696 E. Iliff Pl at I-225 (reservations: 800-222-8733). The hotel will reserve a block of rooms for attendees (for a specified length of time; not known at this time). Interested parties must register on the web if attending the forum.
