Description

Ths Request for Information is issued by the Savannah District, Corps of Engineers, to obtain information from dredging and marine construction contractors on innovative construction methodologies for the Latham River Environmental Restoration Project. The work is located at the Latham River, near Jekyll Island, Georgia, and consists of reconnecting two creeks that were filled when the Jekyll Island Causeway was constructed. As part of the contract, the Goergia Department of Transportation will construct two bridges at the former location of the creeks. This work will be done under separate contract and completed prior to commencement of dredging activities. Dredging will be done in three segments of the creek with channel depths ranging from 7 to 12 feet below mean low water and bottom widths ranging from 50 to 75 feet. Between 250,000 and 520,000 c.y. of material will require dredging with in-water placement of the material in a 37-acre man-made cut. In addition, two earthen plugs will be constructed on either end of the man-made cut.
