Description

NASA/KSC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for a Polymer Mixer/Plasticorder. The polymer mixing equipment must have a sample preparation center that allows for the mixing of polymers on a laboratory scale, and the prep mixer must have the capacity of ~ 400ml with electric heat control. The equipment must allow also for interchangeability of mixer and an extruder that is targeted for future capability. This interchangeability from mixer to extruder allows for savings in time and cost. This equipment also allows for other upgrades that gives enhanced laboratory polymer processing capability for future research initiatives. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/KSC intends to purchase the items from C.W. Brabender. This source is the vendor who supplies the polymer mixer that meets our requirements and specifications, which includes a prep center. After researching for other possible vendors, no other source is known to exist at this time that can provide this particular equipment. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested firms other than the sole source cited have 2 days, from the publication of this synopsis/solicitation to submit in writing to the identified point of contact, their qualifications/capabilities and quotes, providing a description in sufficient detail to show that the product offered meets the Government's requirement. Such qualifications/capabilities will be used solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis, which is solely within the discretion of the Government. Responses received after the 2 days or without the required information will be considered nonresponsive to the synopsis/solicitation and will not be considered. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency. An Ombudsman has been appointed.
