Description
SOURCES are SOUGHT to provide research and development in providing detailed designs and simulations of a three-in-one positron confinement device. The Air Force Research Laboratory Munitions Directorate is pursuing the development of positron energy conversion as a source of energy for both explosive and propulsive devices. Ongoing research has generated a three-in-one confinement device that allows experiments to be conducted using penning trap, magnetic mirror, and field reverse configuration techniques for confining high density positron plasmas. Positronics Research LLC (PRLLC) of Los Alamos, NM is thought to be uniquely capable of performing this task. PRLLC has, thru analysis and preliminary design, developed a unique three-in-one approach that provides a robust investigation path to developing the optimal approach to confining positron plasma under ongoing contracts F08630-00-C-0010 and F08630-01-C-0027. The Air Force Research Laboratory Munitions Directorate Flight Vehicles Branch (AFRL/MNAV) is sponsoring this work. Perspective sources should submit particulars of their capabilities and experience in accordance with Numbered Note 25 to AFRL/MNK, 101 W. Eglin Blvd, Suite 337, Eglin AFB FL 32542-6810, Attn: Brenda Soler. Qualifications will be assessed on demonstrated capabilities to provide design and analysis for combinations of positron confinement techniques and experience in simulating various techniques of positron plasma confinement such as penning traps, magnetic mirrors, and field reverse configuration techniques. Responses to this synopsis must be received within 14 days from date of synopsis publication. This synopsis is for information and planning purposes only, does not constitute an IFB or RFP, and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government. Firms responding to this synopsis should state whether they are, or are not, a small business concern or a small disadvantaged business concern as defined in FAR 52.219-1 for NAICS 541710 (500 employees). For further information concerning technical aspects, contact Mr. Ken Edwards, (850) 882-8876, ext. 3387. Address mailed or faxed documents to: AFRL/MNK, 101 W Eglin Blvd, Suite 337, Eglin AFB FL 32542-6810, Attn: Brenda Soler, and reference "MNK-02-0001, "Positron Design Development" on the outside of the package. FAX number is (850) 882-9599. Also see Note 26.
