Modification to special notice previously posted on Oct.15, 2001. The current National Quality Monitoring Contract, Contract No. MDA906-97-D-0004, will enter the final one-year Option Period on November 1, 2001. As a result of the proposed changes to the current at-risk manged care, contracting approach for the TRICARE program, we are anticipating changes to both utilization manageament (UM) and quality management (QM) for the TRICARE beneficiaries. Therefore, we are considering awarding a short-term 9-12 month contract, effective November 1, 2002, to continue the current Managed Care Support Contract (MCSC) oversight activities to include utilization review, quality review and peer review. The review activity related to MCSC oversight would begin to phase down shortly after the start work date of the contract and progressively thereafter as the new TRICARE contracts come on line. This contract would be concluded within 12 months. Prior to or during the 9-12 month time period, we plan to issue another RFP that would include the revised UM/QM activities to reflect the changes in the TRICARE program.
